Planet Surf Camp Vieux Boucau — Glamping Week

Planet’s Vieux-Boucau camp at Camping Municipal Les Sablères is a social, adult tent-based surf week behind the Landes dunes. It is a different product from Le Pin Sec: its detailed course is twelve 45-minute units, including ten practical and two theory units. Yoga is free to join, not a paid extra merely because attendance is optional.

Course units are not separate full water lessons

The dedicated UK and French course descriptions agree on twelve 45-minute units: ten practical and two theory. On that definition, the total is nine unit-hours: 7.5 practical plus 1.5 theory. Practical allocation is not a guarantee of 7.5 uninterrupted water hours; ask how briefing, moving to the beach and beach drills are counted.

A unit is not necessarily a separate beach appointment. Ask how units are grouped into actual sessions, which days they run and how conditions alter the schedule. The page’s quick-price heading still says “twelve or twenty-two,” but its detailed Vieux-Boucau programme and package table specify twelve. Do not automatically import Le Pin Sec’s twenty-two-unit option, three-hours/six-days paragraph or its conflicting hour claims. A board-only accommodation package is distinct and does not contain the taught course.

Groups are arranged by ability with a stated maximum eight students per instructor. Beginners work on the three-step pop-up, ocean/theory and etiquette; intermediates work towards unbroken green waves. Advanced teaching is described for surfers already comfortable on green waves and seeking turns/manoeuvres. Explain what you can actually do so that “all levels” does not become an unsuitable group placement. No private coach, guaranteed progression, daily filming or particular coach assignment is promised. The page describes multilingual licensed coaches; confirm the language available during your actual week.

Tent sharing, sanitary facilities and realistic privacy

Planet specifies two guests sharing a larger glamping tent with wooden floorboards. It lists mattress, mattress cover, pillow and covered blanket; bedding is not something you must automatically hire again from the campsite. This is not a private hotel room, cabin with ensuite or automatically an exclusive tent for one person. Ask who you share with, bed arrangement and whether sole use is available at extra cost. The UK booking note recommends booking your group together for tent/course grouping; separate payments can still be made.

Toilets/showers are campsite sanitary facilities rather than an advertised in-tent bathroom. The host’s services page lists sanitary facilities, including accessible showers/WCs. That does not certify that Planet’s raised tent, dune path or nearest block meets your mobility needs; request the actual route and layout. No private bathroom, fixed block distance, queue-free use or cleaning schedule is established for this tent allocation.

The host separately lists paid laundry/dryer, fridge lockers and other services. Those are not all automatically included in Planet’s package. Towels, tent power/charging, secure storage, roommate allocation and private-use supplements need confirmation. The UK page contradicts itself about total camp capacity, so no exact guest-total promise is made here. Shared meals/chill space and social evenings can help solo guests meet others, but tents do not provide soundproof privacy or a guaranteed quiet night.

Meals and dietary limits that affect a booking

The UK package and current package table include full board: Continental buffet breakfast, a packed lunch you assemble at breakfast and a hot evening meal with salad/dessert. Planet suggests bringing a lunchbox; crockery/cutlery are supplied at camp. This is not three restaurant services on demand. Guests cannot use the camp kitchen for hygiene reasons.

The French narrative still describes catering as a separately charged weekly service while the package table says included. That is a source-version/variant difference: have full board on your actual quote, rather than silently apply the old surcharge or assume every board-only/transport variant is identical. The French dietary paragraph asks guests to declare vegetarian/allergy needs. The UK page offers gluten-free food but cannot guarantee no gluten contact; do not promise an allergy-safe kitchen, and arrange any medically necessary preparation before paying.

Yoga, equipment and the limits of “all included”

The dedicated UK page says yoga sessions are free to join. Vieux-Boucau invites guests to sign up in camp. Optional means you can choose whether to attend—not that yoga is inherently a paid extra. Exact session frequency, teacher and weather-dependent location should be confirmed; an older overview’s five-session headline is not a private weekly timetable.

Boards, wetsuits and leashes are described as available without an extra hire charge outside lessons. That does not establish a particular hardboard model/size always being free, independent coaching, continuous rescue supervision or freedom from equipment damage/theft liability. A board/security deposit, excess and replacement-cost rules were not established in the reviewed exact France offer. Ask before taking equipment and document its condition; do not import Fuerteventura’s room-key deposit or another destination’s equipment insurance.

The France package lists accident and personal liability insurance during surf lessons and tourist tax. Obtain the actual policy, limits and exclusions. That wording does not establish insurance for independent surfing, all equipment damage, medical repatriation or trip cancellation. Evening games, films and camp social activities are advertised, but offsite drinks, shopping, bicycle hire and city-trip transport are not all automatically free. Hossegor is an outing by road, not walking access from your tent or a guaranteed included surf transfer.

Beach access, skill fit and the real season

Planet describes beach access behind the dunes at roughly 100 metres and town within about 500 metres; the host uses different campsite-wide distances. These are advertised estimates, not a measured step-free path or a sea-view tent promise. Ask about the actual dune crossing, meeting point and board carrying.

Both are Atlantic sandbank beach breaks, not sheltered wave pools. Planet’s regional guide describes changing sandbanks, busier summer surf and stronger autumn/winter conditions. Coaching is grouped by ability, but neither a sandy bottom nor summer dates guarantees gentle waves or absence of currents. Follow the actual beach flags/instructor plan. Do not treat famous Hossegor barrels or a marketing claim of “always surfable waves” as beginner suitability or a weather guarantee. A coach’s lifeguard qualification is not proof of round-the-clock supervision during independent board use.

Displayed 2026 departures are already past, not proof of current or future spaces. The UK/French product headers say July–September, while the French dated table begins in June2026 and extends through late September; the overview gives a broader undated June-to-October window. The host campsite’s2026 opening period was broader still, March 28–November 1. The municipal campsite being open is not evidence that Planet’s team, meals, yoga and course operate throughout that period.

Ask for the actual Planet season and departure year before booking transport. Do not reuse old 2026 prices or departure buttons as a 2027 offer. This guide does not certify live availability or claim the camp runs through winter.

Summer tends to bring warmer conditions and more visitors; shoulder weeks can be cooler, wetter and more swell-dependent. Tent accommodation still means outdoor walks to facilities and exposure to wind/rain/heat. Ask about supplied wetsuit fit and the actual closure/fallback plan rather than assume a wetsuit specification, storm-proof bedroom or guaranteed replacement course.

Arrival and departure: confirm each separate leg

  1. Confirm the actual operating week, taught-course versus board-only option, tent and full-board inclusions. Saturday is the stated arrival/departure day; do not assume a midweek private arrival fits the package.
  2. Planet names Biarritz, BIQ, and Bordeaux, BOD, for flights, and Dax for rail. These are not included flights or automatic airport pickups. Old airline-route lists are not current schedules. Do not use Le Pin Sec’s Lesparre camp shuttle for this location.
  3. Planet directs guests to the separately contracted West Coast Transfers shuttle and asks for booking at least a week ahead. Its page advertises Saturday services, but the provider’s live availability controls the actual seats, dates and route. Select the Vieux-Boucau/Les Sablères stop explicitly; not every listed transfer necessarily serves it.
  4. The provider asks for correct flight/train details and at least a forty-five-minute flight-arrival-to-shuttle interval. That is its published minimum guidance, not a guarantee you clear formalities in time. It says a delayed/cancelled flight may mean the shuttle cannot wait; moving to another transfer is subject to availability. Obtain its current delay/cancellation terms before payment.
  5. Planet describes the campsite reception as its pickup/drop-off point and advises being ready ten minutes early; confirm the actual meeting location on your transfer voucher. The provider says return accommodation pickup is approximate, with confirmation the evening before travel by message. Check the latest instructions and leave an appropriate flight buffer; no missed-flight protection is invented.
  6. Give Planet your accepted camp arrival details and request late-access instructions if needed. Cars cannot park inside the campsite under Planet’s published instructions: arrange nearby parking and unloading separately. An independently hired private transfer or another-day shuttle is not automatically included or the same price as a shared Saturday seat.

Payment instructions need an actual contract

The linked general UK terms say payment is due twenty-eight days before departure unless the contract agrees otherwise. The reviewed UK Vieux-Boucau booking page does not settle a deposit amount in its visible text. Do not copy the French Le Pin Sec 30%/thirty-day instructions into this separate product as a confirmed Vieux-Boucau payment contract. Ask for the actual deposit, balance deadline and included services in writing. Municipal pitch terms and the transfer company’s contract are separate from Planet’s surf-package terms.

Cancellation and weather: consequential terms to read before paying

The linked Planet general terms identify the organiser on the written confirmation. Section 8 publishes cancellation charges per person as a percentage of the travel price, not merely a lost reservation deposit:

Published timing wording before the trip Published charge
Up to the thirtieth day 30%
Up to the twenty-second day 40%
Up to the fifteenth day 50%
Up to the eighth day 70%
From the seventh day 80%
No-show without prior cancellation 90%

The source makes receipt of cancellation decisive. Request the actual calendar cutoffs and the applicable version with your confirmation rather than assume a cancellation sent but not received meets a deadline. Rebooking is generally withdrawal plus a new booking; an individually agreed change may carry a 25-euro per-person fee and depends on availability. That is not a guaranteed low-cost date change or a promise that the deposit caps your exposure.

Section 9 says unused services/early return generally do not produce a refund; weather-prevented or partly delivered sports/excursions do not automatically produce a proportional refund, with a stated saved-cost exception. It also mixes in Fuerteventura-specific course scheduling language, so do not import those island weekend rules into this France camp. Ask what happens to your actual course if the beach closes or the full unit allocation cannot run, and whether a voucher or rescheduling is offered. No cash-refund or same-week replacement guarantee is established.

The public terms contain legal/translated wording and no clearly established revision date. This guide reports their published conditions, not an opinion on enforceability or a recertified private booking. Confirm the organiser, governing terms and any separately contracted transport conditions in writing. The operator recommends cancellation/repatriation insurance; a lesson-only accident/liability inclusion is not comprehensive travel, equipment, theft or cancellation cover.

Practical traveler FAQs

Is a 45-minute unit a separate full surf lesson?

No. Units may be grouped into a longer session and include theory. Vieux-Boucau’s detailed course is ten practical plus two theory45-minute units: nine total unit-hours, not twelve full water sessions.

Can I count on the bigger course in an overview heading?

No. The detailed Vieux-Boucau programme and package list specify twelve units despite a 12/22 overview heading. Do not import Le Pin Sec’s larger formula without a dated offer for this exact camp.

Will I have a private tent and bathroom?

The offer normally puts two guests in a larger glamping tent with bedding. Sole use, roommate allocation and bed arrangement require confirmation. Do not assume an ensuite; ask for the actual shared sanitary-block arrangement, route and accessibility.

Is yoga an optional paid extra?

The exact UK product says sessions are free to join. Attendance is optional, not inherently a surcharge. Confirm the actual timetable; it is not a guarantee of a fixed number of sessions regardless of conditions.

Are all meals included and can I cook my own?

The full-board package describes breakfast, a lunch packed at breakfast and hot dinner. Guests cannot use the kitchen. Confirm arrival/departure coverage and actual package wording because an older French narrative still describes a catering surcharge.

Can the camp guarantee gluten-free allergy-safe food?

No such guarantee is established. The UK page explicitly says gluten-free food may have contact with gluten-containing food. Declare dietary/medical needs at booking and obtain a workable preparation arrangement rather than rely on a broad menu label.

Does free equipment mean no deposit or damage liability?

No. Free out-of-lesson hire is advertised, but exact board/security deposit, damage/theft rules and excess were not established. Lesson accident/liability insurance is not blanket independent-surfing or equipment cover.

Are the 2026 dates still bookable or evidence of next year?

No. Displayed 2026 departures are past at this review, and source season windows conflict. The host campsite’s opening does not certify Planet operation. Obtain the future departure year, dates and actual services before buying transport.

Is airport transfer included?

No. BIQ/BOD/Dax shared transport is separately booked with the provider; actual route, dates, luggage and delay rules must be accepted. Le Pin Sec’s Lesparre shuttle is not this camp’s service.

Could cancellation cost more than my deposit?

Yes under the published general schedule: charges rise from 30% to 80% of the travel price per person as departure approaches, with 90% for no-show without cancellation. Receipt of notice matters. Obtain the applicable dated policy and exact calendar deadlines rather than assume a deposit-only limit.

Are weather-cancelled lessons automatically refunded?

No automatic refund or same-week replacement is established. The general terms restrict refunds for weather-prevented/part-delivered activities, with a saved-cost exception. Ask how your exact unit contract handles closure, replacement or any voucher before committing.
