Pro surfer John John Florence breaks down surfing scenes from movies, including ‘Forgetting Sarah Marshall,’ ‘Blue Crush,’ ‘Point Break,’ ‘Orange County,’ ‘Chasing Mavericks,’ ‘Lilo and Stitch’ and ‘Surf’s Up.’ With GQ Sports, the real action is off the field.
Whether it’s tackling pro surfing’s biggest waves or dissecting classic surf movies, John John Florence is always game. The two-time world champion surfer recently teamed up with GQ Sports to break down some of the most iconic surf scenes in film history, and Florence didn’t hold back on his critiques.
Loved his breakdown, really trying to be realistic with people and not making it a joke. Brilliant mind at surfing (and other things). Notice also how he talks about his brother doing big wave surfing and others, but never mentions he won the Eddie Aikau big wave competition, one of the most prestigious competitions around, that rarely ever happens because the waves have to be huge to call it. The year he won it was massive and was the last time they’ve held it.
